Slow Art from Recycled Materials

By using all kinds of leftover and discarded materials, I give to that which is broken and abandoned, a new life in my art.

Making a collage is like playing a game where the work of art is slowly built piece by piece. I start my working process spontaneously and proceed as if I’m conversing with the composition. Each added detail causes a change in the situation of the composition, to which I try to respond by placing the next piece on the canvas to balance the whole. By "discussing" in this way, the work progresses step by step to completion. This is slow and contemplative. Most of the working time is spent looking at the work in progress, thinking about the next step.

So, my art is connected to slowness, meditation, game of composition, repetition, expansion, stress management, breathing in rhythm with the work and to the sustainable way of making art.

Collage as Sculpture

Collage made of objects is a very ecological way of artmaking. Often I can make these entirely from recycled materials and when glue, binder, pigment or fasteners are needed to fasten the parts, their quantities are very small. This is a very nature-friendly way of making art. I work with them quite rarely but regularly. Like paper collages, the construction of the work starts from one interesting detail.
